Wedding Day Hair and Makeup Tips
There is no better vendor to kick off our vendor spotlights than Hey Doll Beauty! We absolutely adore their work and have been working with Addie and her team since we started in the wedding industry in Houston. We sat down with Addie to ask her a bit about herself and what wedding day makeup tips and advice she would love to share with brides! All the images in this post were shot by us with makeup done by Hey Doll Beauty.
Houston Makeup Artist
Before we get to the nitty gritty, here is some information about Addie and Hey Doll Beauty! Addie has been in the wedding industry for about five years and loves making brides look and feel their best! Addie beautifies brides from Portland, Oregon to Houston, Texas and everywhere in between! She is a nationally featured makeup artist and we are so excited to be shooting their wedding next year (see her and Travis pictured below, they are adorable)!
How would you describe your style of work?
Our style is modern/classic but luxe. We want to give every one of our brides a luxury experience. From the booking process all the way to the time we step out of the door, we want you to feel stress free about booking with our team. My favorite part about what we do, is that the bride will get a mini facial before her makeup starts! We at Hey Doll Beauty want our brides to each have an individual experience, not feel like just another client in our chair.
Do you do traditional or airbrush makeup?
We offer both! Typically, I tell clients to base their decision off of their skin type. Normal to dry I recommend traditional, and combo to oily I recommend airbrush! But if you have a great skin prep regimen prior to your wedding, neither should be an issue 🙂
How long on average does hair and makeup for the bride take? For the bridesmaids?
For the bride, I like to spend a little more time on her since she’s the leading lady of the show. Her wedding day makeup takes about an hour to do with bridesmaids typically taking up to 45 minutes. I always leave enough wiggle room for each person just because you never know what could cause a delay.
What is the best way to make wedding day makeup last?
First, invest in a touch up kit! Our team sells them and it includes all the goodies to keep your makeup looking it’s best all night. Next, if you get shiny, sweaty, oily, BLOT! Do not rub! Rubbing is a disaster waiting to happen. Take a soft tissue or blotting sheets and lightly pat the skin.
Is a bridal session a great trial run for the wedding day?
Absolutely! I always recommend our brides get a trial done for their bridals. It’s the perfect opportunity to see how your completed look, dress and all, will come together. Another reason to do a makeup trial is to see how you photograph in the look you chose and if you’d want to make any tweaks or adjustments.
